The latest hot topic from Pentangle Kitchens is hobs; – which is the best hob for residential developments today – induction or gas?

Which type of hob is best?

The choice is between induction or gas and each has pros and cons.

Pentangle believes induction is best because:

Pros

  1. Induction cooking converts 70–80% of energy to heat food whereas gas  converts only 38%.
  2. A full-surface induction hob can have a larger cooking zone which gives greater flexibility in use.
  3. Easy to wipe-clean flat surface.
  4. Electricity is  a “greener” form of energy than gas.
  5. Annual running costs lower than gas.
  6. Gas installation has additional safety requirements compared to induction.

Cons

  1.  Induction-compatible pans are required.
  2.  Can be more expensive to buy than a gas hob.

Interesting facts around induction cooking…..

Induction is not new – the first induction cooker was patented in the early 1900’s !!!!

It takes just 3 and a half minutes on average to boil a large pan of water using an induction hob.Induction hobs can in some cases affect pacemakers. The British Heart Foundation advises that you should keep a distance of at least 60cm from an induction hob while it’s on.
