Pentangle were proud to work with Chelsfield and the interior designers, Collett Zarzycki on the design and installation of kitchens in this landmark development, which was integrated into the existing fabric of the site of the former Grade II* listed London Commonwealth Institute. OMA and Allies and Morrison transformed the existing building into the new Design Museum, re-injecting life into the former modernist monument. The only part of the original building that remains is its distinctive roof and parabolic form.

The original copper-covered, hyperbolic paraboloid roof of the old Commonwealth Institute was propped up and the building underneath demolished, which was an engineering feat itself. This new home on Kensington High street for the Design Museum has given it three-times the space of its former home in Shad Thames, while acknowledging the important heritage of industrial design.
